Streetwear Spotlight: Life’s Journey Clothing

Being inspiring doesn’t have to be oh-so-serious. Chris Hudson and his Life’s Journey Clothing broke into the streetwear world with a sense of humor and witty sayings on Life’s Journey t-shirts, proving that a little smile goes a long way. As stated in Life’s Journey website, the vision behind the clothing is to make the wearers think about their future. So if you’re into inspirational designs to enhance positivity in life, the line is worth checking out. SoJones sits down with the young entrepreneur and here’s what he has to say about his streetwear line:

Introduce yourself and describe how your brand was started?
My name is Chris Hudson CEO and Founder of Life’s Journey Clothing. The idea actually came from constantly praying to God asking him what my purpose was on this earth. I always loved fashion and people but I have a huge heart to reach people and I felt that clothing would be a way of motivating people because clothing is an expression of your attitude.

Describe this season’s theme for your line. Include any sources of inspiration (examples: 80′s punk, muses like Amber Rose, 70′s disco bands, Kanye, etc).
The inspirations behind the summer collection’s pieces were to uplift the people and to inspire them. I felt the need to connect with the struggle of the people but to also uplift them throughout the journey they encounter in life. It was also to tell the people to keep striving towards their dreams but to enjoy life along the way.

Any product placements on celebs to keep an eye out for (examples: publicity photos, magazines, movies, music videos etc)
In my opinion everyone is a celebrity everyone has their own unique and individual talent. Everyone who wears our clothing is considered a celebrity in our eyes because everyone is great at something.

What has been a surprise fashion hit over the last year? (a particular piece, a look or even another brand)
I would say Johnny Cupcakes I have been following his brand for quite some time but I noticed that he has been extremely creative not only with his designs but with how he connects with his customers. He is a genius and his brand is very exceptional.

What current fashion trend would you like to see thrown overboard?
I would honestly say nothing, everyone has their own individual style so with that said everything has been great to me.

What is/was one of your most prized fashion pieces, past or present?
I would say my hemp authentic desert palm/black vans.

Tupac or Biggie?
They are both musical geniuses and each has a timely message but I have to go with 2Pac. With music and fashion going hand and hand I feel Tupac’s message appeals to what Life’s Journey is all about. Tupac was more about uplifting the people and relating to everyone’s struggle.
Life’s Journey Clothing is available to purchase on www.lifesjourneyclothing.com and the tees are very reasonably priced, ranging from $12 up to $20. Here are some SoJones-approved pieces:

Another Guard On Rikers Accused Of Favoring Rapper Lil Wayne

A guard on Rikers Island could face disciplinary action for allegedly giving superstar rapper Lil Wayne preferential treatment in the prison.

An investigation has been launched over the alleged actions of Captain Latanya Brown, who is accused of spending extra time with Lil Wayne.

Additionally, the New York Post reports that Captain Brown allegedly allowed the rapper to stay in his cell, while other inmates were ordered out of their bunks and into the recreation yard.

The prison has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to showing favoritism towards any inmate.

In April, just one month after the rapper started his year-long sentence for attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a guard at the complex was fired for allegedly spying on Lil Wayne.

Amelia Negron was fired for glimpsing at Lil Wayne, although she denied the charges, claiming her union boss forced her to make a confession.

This is not the first time a rapper has caused controversy on Rikers Island.

In June of 2009, it was revealed that Foxy Brown allegedly received preferential treatment during her 9-month stay on Rikers Island in 2006.

The rapper held a photo shoot and  allegedly received unlimited phone/TV use, makeup, luxury clothing and outside meals.

In October of 2009, Correction Chief Peter Curcio and a Rabbi named Leib Glanz resigned over the scandal, after the Brown reports, in addition to allegations that Rabbi Glanz arranged a lavish bar mitzvah for an inmates son.

Snoop Dogg’s Design For “Cup With a Cause” Charity

The days of Snoop Dogg making toasts with his pimp cups are over.  The rapper still deals with cups, only this time he designs them for charity (which we love, by the way). Snoop and a number of celebs from the entertainment world and sports partner up with 7-Eleven to raise money for charity by designing customized celebrity coffee cups.
Celebs lineup so far includes WWE Superstar, John Cena and singer/actress, Jennifer Hudson, who already contributed their designs for the charity. A portion of the proceeds will go to each celeb’s charity of choice.

Snoop’s cup will benefit the Snoop Youth Football League, a foundation he founded to keep youngsters involved in sports. Snoop stated:
“We’ve been running this league for six years now with more than 3,500 kids participating in that time, but our partnership with 7-Eleven’s ‘Coffee Cup With A Cause’ program is huge for us.”
As these cups are limited editions, grab yourself one in the nearest 7-Eleven, because Snoop Dogg’s 7-Eleven cups will only be available from September 1st through 18th of October, 2010. 7-Eleven is still going for other stars, and we’ll keep you updated with who’s next in the lineup. For more info, go to www.cupwithacause.org. Will your favorite celebrity participate?  Well, you’ll have to wait and in the mean time, check Snoop’s fantastic coffee cup design.
